Obituary

Albert L. Adams, a resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, died on August 13, 2021 at the age of 77. Al was born in Yonkers, New York on May 25, 1944. He was blessed with 54 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marie "Terry" Adams.

Al is survived by his devoted wife Terry; his daughter Dawn Dalton and her husband Edward; his son James Adams and his wife Jennifer; his grandchildren Andrew Adams and his wife Amanda, Tommy Dalton, and Katy Dalton. He is predeceased by his parents, Marion and John Adams, and his sister Joyce Adams-Doyle.

After joining the Navy reserves in his junior year of high school, Al served active duty on the U.S.S. Brattleboro for two years, then served two years of reserve duty. Al & Terry raised their two kids in Yonkers, showing by example that when hard work had to get done, you just got up and did it. He worked for Carvel, Ikon Office Solutions and Con Edison before retiring to Florida in 2003.

Al was a natural-born drummer, starting in the Sacred Heart High School Bagpipe band, practicing his craft frequently (even if just on tabletops or his lap). A longtime member of the Mount Kisco Scottish Pipes and Drums band, he made an appearance drumming in a Saturday Night Live sketch in 1979. After moving to Wingdale, New York in 1989, Al devoted his time as a volunteer at the J. H. Ketcham Hose Company fire department. He was always ready and willing to offer help to anyone that needed it without a second thought.

Al brought life into every room he walked into. He was notoriously quick to tell a joke, no matter how bad, never deterred by the loving groans and eye-rolls they would often induce. He loved telling tales of his days in the Navy and singing songs from his younger years. He was a collector of many things, from state quarters to lighthouse statues, and in his later years made frequent additions to his "Adams Station" Christmas village.

Upon moving to Florida, Al worked as a security guard – a job he loved. He made friends with nearly everyone he met and was always sure to say hello, offer a smile, and brag about his grandkids a little. Although his final years were hampered by Alzheimer's, Al never stopped telling jokes, singing songs, and making friends everywhere he went. More than anything, Al was a proud and loving husband, father, brother, friend and Pop-Pop, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
