Alexander G Rabitaille, 84, of Ft. Pierce, FL, died November 12, 2013 at his home.

Alex was born March 27, 1929 in Groton, CT to Joseph and Willimina Rabitalle. He was a graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School, Groton, CT in 1947.

Mr. Rabitaille was a veteran of the United States Air National Guard.

He retired in 1971 after working 24 years with Electric Boat, later called General Dynamics in Groton, CT, as a nuclear piping designer in submarines, of which "Nautilus" was the first. He later became the owner of Ski Loft Sports Shops in Groton, Norwich and Niantic, CT as well as a location in Westerly, RI from which he retired in 1986.

Alex made many friends during his years in the business world. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International with 13 years of perfect attendance, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge all in Groton, CT. He was a past member of The Choral Society of Vero Beach, the St. Lucie Chorale and the Treasure Coast Opera Society. Proudly known as "Mr.Alex", for many years he did volunteer work with children at Osceola Magnet School in Vero Beach.

Mr. Rabitaille was an active member of Community Church of Vero Beach where he served as a choir member, shepherd, pew engineer, usher, and greeter.

'And now he is dead as though he had never been born, Thank you Lord for a Fantastic Life'.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Florence Rabitaille; daughters, Lynne Menard of Granby, CT and Adrienne Collins of Vero Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Tiffanie and Lindsie Collins, both of Vero Beach, FL, brother, William O. Rabitaille of Fernandina Beach, FL and sister, Shirley Viveiros of Tucson, AZ. He was predeceased by brothers, Paul and Joseph Rabitaille.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 3 pm at Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to any of the following: the Ronald McDonald House, the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Alzheimers Disease Fund, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, Doctors Without Borders, or in his name to the charity of your choice.
