Alexander J. Yeats, PhD, 83, passed away January 1, 2023. Sandy (as he liked to be called) was born in New York City July 5, 1939 and at the age of 5 moved to Castleton, NY.

Upon graduation from high school he attended the University of Kansas, majoring in applied mathematics followed by a masters degree in econometrics from UCLA, and a Ph.D in economics from the University of Nebraska. He would later be inducted in the University of Nebraska economics department hall of fame.

Upon receiving his PhD, Sandy worked for The Federal Reserve, in Washington,D.C. where he met and married his wife of 54 years Jeannie (Eugenia) Chipouras of Sparta, Greece. Enjoying his profession and seeing the world became Sandy's mission. After one year at the Fed, Sandy won a Ford Foundation grant to teach econometrics at Robert College, Istanbul, Turkey. While driving to Istanbul from Paris, Sandy fell in love with Geneva, Switzerland.

This city was to become his second overseas home as he was hired by the United Nations. During their 16 plus years in Switzerland, an invitation by the government of Sweden resulted in yet one more year of wonderful work while experiencing a different culture. Here, Sandy wrote his first book, "Trade Barriers Facing Developing Countries". Also during this stay, their son Alexander J. Yeats, Jr. was born. After almost 20 years overseas, The World Bank offered Sandy a position as Principal Economist in the Development Research Group in Washington, DC. Upon retirement he moved to Vero Beach but continued working as Consultant for the World Bank on Poverty Reduction Policy, mostly in the African region. Sandy was a prolific economics research writer, he published five books and over 100 research papers.

In retirement, with his wife, his passion for world travel continued. Sandy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jeannie, his son Alexander and his wife Sarah and grandchildren, Lilly and Xander.
