Alfred William LaPorte, 67, of Vero Beach, FL died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. LaPorte was born September 17, 1941 in Jamaica, NY and had been a winter visitor to Grand Harbor, Vero Beach for the past 20 years moving here full time eight years ago from New York City, NY.
He was a Director for New York Telephone, now Verizon, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. LaPorte was a graduate of Adelphi University in Garden City, NY and a member of the Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club, and the National Rhododendron and Azalea Society. He was an avid golfer, investor, and gardener. He loved the theatre, music, and books.
He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years Colleen M. Mohr of Vero Beach, FL; and his brother Raymond D. LaPorte of Mt. Sinai, NY.
Services: The family will receive friends 2-4; 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 PM. A Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
