Andre George Billeci
Born Andrea George Billeci on December 2, 1933 in New York City to Salvatore and Rosaria Billeci, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at his home. He retired to Punta Gorda, FL. in 1990, and moved to Vero Beach in 2002. He was 77 years old.
After 4 years in the Air Force; Mr. Billeci received his BFA in 1960, and MFA in 1961 from the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University in New York.
In 1963 he established the Glass Art Program for the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University. While teaching at Alfred, he supervised the expansion of the school's extensive glass facilities. The program at retirement included a full graduate and undergraduate curriculum.
Professor Billeci was a highly recognized glass artist with numerous domestic and international exhibitions. He was a Designer and Consultant for Steuben Glass, Mary McFadden Inc., and the Royal College of Art, UK.. His work as a Research Consultant for the Corning Museum of Glass took him to India six times from 1986 to 1999. His commission work included pieces for Penn Mutual Life & E.I. Dupont de Nemours.
Mr. Billeci also consulted for UNICEF in Afghanistan in 1993 and for the International Executive Service Corp. in Guatemala in 1988, Honduras in 1989, and Zimbabwe in 1996.
He presented over 25 workshops and seminars in museums and universities in the United States, Europe, and Canada. He is extensively published and is represented in many prestigious international collections.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; sons, Andrew Billeci of Pauma Valley, CA, John Billeci of NYC, NY; and brother, S. Daniel Billeci of Pleasant Valley, NY.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
