Andrew A. Bain, 88, of Vero Beach died peacefully Monday, March 26, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Bain was born March 19, 1924 in Woodbury, NJ. He and his wife, Joan, bought their first home in Vero Beach in 1982. They split time between Vero Beach and their home in West Lafayette, IN for many years, spending the majority of their time In Vero after Andy's retirement in 1989.
Andrew graduated with his Bachelors degree from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. While at Ursinus, he met Joan Wilmot, whom he married 63 years ago, on July 30, 1948. .
A World War II Veteran, Andy served from 1943-1946 as a United States Naval Pilot. He ended his military service as a Lieutenant, J.G.
He was an independent insurance agent, and an owner of MBAH Insurance in Lafayette. One of the "founding fathers" of MBAH in 1980, Andy had started his insurance agency career in 1954 with the Adams Agency in Lafayette. He was named President and Treasurer of that firm in 1971 and led its operations until merging it with the Mayerstein - Burnell Agency and the Heath agency to form MBAH.
In Lafayette he attended Covenant Presbyterian Church. A true servant, he was a member of the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, and the Lafayette Country Club., having served as an officer or Board member in each of them. He also served on the Home Hospital Board, the Tippecanoe County School's Foundation and the Alpha Phi Fraternity Corp. Board.
Although officially retired, Andy never really retired. In Vero Beach he served on the Moorings Country Club Board, was the Treasurer of the Harbourside Yacht Club, and was on the board of both the Moorings Property Owners and Harbourside Condominium Associations. In recent years Andy very much enjoyed being a member of the Tail Hookers, a group of former Navy pilots, most of whom shared the experience of launching from, and landing on, aircraft carriers.
When Andy wasn't serving virtually every organization he encountered, he could be found either on the golf course or fishing. His passion for golf and love for the people he saw every day brought both joy and peace to his life.
