Obituary

Andrew E Whipkey III, age 66 of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away suddenly, at his home on December 23, 2018.

Andy was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on February 26, 1952 to the late Lawrence L. and Josephine M. Whipkey, and a graduate of Wilkinsburg High. He married Margaret M (Maggie Schreibeis) Whipkey in 1986 and they lived together in Pittsburgh, PA until retiring to Vero Beach, FL in 2009.

Andy was a loving husband, father and a dedicated employee of the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh where he retired as the Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance/Motor Pool.  Every once in a while, a very special individual impacts the world and the people whom he contacts.  This person devotes himself to helping anyone who needs him.  This was Andy Whipkey.  His friends wanted to be near him because he made them feel happy and special.  He was the best friend of many because each person was treated just that way, as a best friend.  His smile, the sparkle in his eyes, the huge hug and his love for people was obvious to all.  He was extremely bright but yet a simple man.  All jobs were in his ability.  He was a kind, gentle, selfless man who wanted for nothing more than what he had.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Josephine Whipkey and his brother, Larry and is survived by his wife Maggie; son, Andy (Jena); sister, Diane (Bill) Moore; brother-in-laws, Charlie (Pat) Schreibeis and Paul (Ann) Schreibeis; sister-in-laws, Ellen Schreibeis and Ret (Frank) Vogrin; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and numerous friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 with a Prayer Service at 3:45 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon, Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) http://www.ihelpveterans.org/
