Ann
Caton
Aug 2, 1934 — Oct 10, 2026
Vero Beach
Anna C. Caton of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026 at VNA Hospice House after a brief illness at the age of 92.
Anna Mae Virginia was born in Trenton, NJ, to Anna Mae (Otto) and Thomas Cahill. She would ultimately grow up in Princeton as part of a blended family, the eldest of ten siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. John E. Caton, long-time partner Burton Weisbecker, sister Maureen, and brothers Dan, Tom, Peter, and Chuck. She is survived by brothers Dick, Bob, Bill, and Jerry, as well as fifteen nieces and nephews.
A graduate of the St. Francis School of Nursing, she practiced as a registered nurse in New Jersey for eight years before moving to Florida. Pursuing her love for learning, she graduated with a degree from Rollins College, and for the next nine years taught American History at Melbourne High School. Looking for a change and travel opportunity, she became a Max Factor beauty consultant, rising to become a regional account coordinator for the eastern U.S.
Annie, as she was known by friends and family, was a classy lady, who was always “put together,” and rarely seen in public without a hat or scarf and coordinating fashion accessories. Her passions were many, including world travel, art and theater, ballroom dancing, and a love of fine wine, especially champagne. Annie and husband John shared a love of estate sale and thrift store shopping, both as a getaway activity and for the wonderful finds they made.
A surprise interest to many family members was when she and Burton lived on a 46-foot recreational trawler (the “Goldilocks”) for several years, cruising the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway before settling in Vero Beach, where she became a proud member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club.
A lifelong student, Annie could converse on most any topic and had a knack for making others feel it was they who were interesting. She genuinely enjoyed engaging people (just ask the cashiers at the Fresh Market where she shopped!) and leaves behind many dear friends, both longstanding and of recent acquaintance.
Vero has one less sparkle in their midst; she and her joie de vivre will be missed by all.
Donations in her honor may be made to the VNA and Hospice Foundation of Vero Beach. Annie will be interred with her husband John in Arlington National Cemetery.
