Ann Daly Lydon of Montvale, NJ and Vero Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 following a sudden illness at the age of 86. Ann was born September 1, 1929 in Bronx, NY, daughter of Charles. E. Daly and Anne Casey Daly and was the third of seven children. Her family moved from New York City to Park Ridge, NJ while she was in high school, where she met her devoted husband Jack, with whom she would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this coming October.
Ann will always be remembered as the matriarch of the family hosting many great family get-togethers, as well as her inspirational, creative, and independent spirit. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge for many years. Ann was first and foremost a homemaker, but was also employed at Hertz Rental Company and Keyes Fiber in Montvale. Ann was both a stroke and cancer survivor, and had a wide variety of interests and hobbies including cooking, gardening, crocheting, reading, exercising, walking along the beach, puzzles and coloring. A great listener and conversationalist, Ann absolutely loved people, and her warm companionship will be missed by many.
Ann is survived by her husband, John (Jack) V. Lydon, and four children: John F. Lydon of Longmont, CO; Rick Lydon and his wife Carol of Milford, NH; Sharon Powers and her husband Stan of Winnabow, NC; and Charles (Chuck) Lydon of Montvale, NJ. Ann is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Leo, Scott, Lauren, Kerri, Jenna, Jared, Corey, Zachary and Kelsey, as well as ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Louie) Daly and his wife Valerie of Warwick, NY, and her sister Rosaleen Orfini and her husband Don of Pearl River, NY, in addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The Lydon family would like to express their deepest appreciation for all the prayers, calls, and messages of support they have received from all who loved Ann. They plan to hold a memorial celebration of her life in the future on a date yet to be determined. But for the present, many have asked what can they do to honor Ann's memory? The Lydon family believes this is what Ann would like you to do: Take a walk along the beach, or in the woods, or a local park, or around your neighborhood. It really doesn't matter. Look for things: things you would expect and perhaps those you would not. Smell the air. Feel the breeze. Listen to the wind, or the birds, or your favorite music. Sit on a bench and appreciate a moment. Call your parent or your child or an old friend. Talk to a total stranger you meet. Read a book. Write down your memories. Work on a puzzle or some coloring. Go to garage sales, or have your own, or give something away to someone who needs it. Cook a good meal and then share yourself with those you love.
That is what she would want. Whatever you choose to do, think of her and enjoy your time with her, as all of us who loved her will!
