Obituary

Anthony J (Gus) Giustino Sr, 89, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away on October 27, 2022 peacefully at the VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach, due to complications related to a fall on June 15, 2022.

Anthony was born in Worcester, MA on September 16, 1933, son of the late Giacomo and Angela (Galantino) Giustino. He graduated from Commerce High School and Quinsigamond Community College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Later, he became a police officer for the City of Worcester. During his 30 years of service to the community, he was shot while answering a domestic violence call. After his retirement, he remained very active, where he was the Commander of the Italian American Veterans Post# 3 for many years. One of the many highlights during his tenure was being awarded the key to the City of Worcester by the Mayor Raymond Mariano.

Anthony was an avid golfer and bowler. Throughout the years he ran several sports leagues, including the Worcester Police Golf League. He was a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan. Anthony also loved singing karaoke every week at the Vero Beach Veterans Club. He loved to travel and would return to Massachusetts every year to visit his family. Anthony went by many other names; Dad, Grampy, Uncle Gus, and Gus the Bus.

He will be missed by all!

Anthony is survived by his wife Mary Joan (Messier) Giustino, his sister Mary (Giustino) Castellani of Redlands, CA, his twin sister Anny (Giustino) Lorusso of Worcester, MA. He is predeceased by his older brother Leonard Giustino of Worcester, MA. He leaves his daughter, Kelly (Giustino) McVey and her husband Michael of East Sandwich, MA and his son Anthony Giustino Jr. and his wife Julie of Statesville, NC. Anthony was blessed with seven grandchildren, Talia Kanaan and her husband Elias of Worcester, MA, Jacob McVey and his fiancée Chris Igoe of Lowell, MA, Evan and Chase McVey of East Sandwich, MA, Anthony III, Francesca and Hayden Giustino of Statesville, NC and one great grandchild, Grayson Kanaan of Worcester, MA, several nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Thank you to the staff of Brookdale-Vero Beach Assisted Living Facility and Preferred Care at Home. We would like to extend a loving thank you to Shelley, Natasha, Nannette, Precious, Melissa, Briya, Joy and several others for their care and compassion.

A special thank you to VNA Hospice and Hospice House of Vero Beach for their extensive efforts to make his final days peaceful and dignified.
