IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ardalion Joseph
Guzman
November 28, 1939 – April 26, 2025
Ardalion Joseph Guzmán, known to friends and family as "José," passed away on April 26, 2025, in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born to Sotero Guzmán and Mercedes Restrepo in Urrao, Antioquia, Colombia, on November 28, 1939.
In 1965, José responded to an invitation to come to Florida from a cousin who had recently married and relocated along the Indian River. That same year, José stayed in touch with his sweetheart overseas through frequent letters. They married in 1966 and soon began building a fulfilling, beautiful small-town life together in Vero Beach.
José spent most of his career at Piper Aircraft, retiring in 1989. Just last year, he proudly returned for a tour with a grandson. Throughout his life, he served as an inspiration to many, exemplifying the values of hard work, compassion, and service. He dedicated himself to his church, St. Helen's Catholic Church, where he helped build the Spanish Ministry and served as usher. His unwavering faith guided him in all that he did, and he was known for his kindness and generosity, always striving to leave everything and everyone better than he found them.
José possessed incredible strength and an indomitable will to live. He faced life's challenges with courage and resilience, inspiring those around him with both his unwavering spirit and remarkable physical fortitude. His zest for life was infectious. With a quick wit, a love for a good joke, and a gift for spirited conversation, he brought joy to everyone he met, lifting others with his boundless positivity.
José possessed the knowledge and skill to build or fix just about anything. A passionate gardener, he found joy in nurturing the earth. His caring spirit was reflected in the time and dedication he invested in maintaining his home, lawn, and garden. Often, one could find José sitting on the porch, resting from his labors while enjoying the sight of his fruit trees and the birds visiting his feeder. His home, nestled in the peace and tranquility of his beloved Vero Beach, was a place where all were welcome for delicious meals, a good cup of coffee, and hours of conversation and laughter.
José was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend — never meeting a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria "Denise" Guzmán, an extraordinary and dedicated caregiver who lived her vows with grace; his cherished sons, Alexander Christian Guzmán and Andrew Joseph Guzmán with his wife, Mabel O. Guzmán; and his beloved daughter, Sandra Guzmán Rennick with her husband, Ronald James Rennick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jackson, Gwynneth, James Hadley, and Aria Sofia, who carry forward his spirit of love, faith, loyalty, and service.
His interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Vincent de Paul or the charity of your choice, honoring José's lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
