Arthur Richard Maier, (Art), 90, residing in Vero Beach, FL passed away on December 17 ^th , 2017 at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach from injuries due to a fall.

Arthur was born, June 15 ^th , 1927 in Newark, NJ to Arthur Maier and Elizabeth (Schott) Maier.

He served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class, June 1945 – July 1946.

Arthur graduated from Lehigh University in 1949. Shortly after graduation he moved to Florida where he started his career as a journalist.

Arthur married Rita Houtenbrink De Beauchamp in 1984. He embraced her six children, which grew into 16 grand children and 11 great grandchildren. He loved spending hours fishing with his grandchildren as long as he didn't have to eat the fish! He loved fishing but not the taste of seafood.

After a long and joyful career Arthur retired from The Press Journal, Vero Beach in 1994. Rita and Arthur enjoyed their retirement traveling across the country in their motor home. He was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, which gave him great pride to write their monthly newsletter for many years.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Rita (Houtenbrink DeBeauchamp) Maier, 4 children, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Please join the family January 21 ^st , 2018 at 3:00 PM for a Memorial Service in honor of Arthur's life at The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Vero Beach, refreshments to follow.
