Barbara and Arthur Dawson
On January 25, 2014, Barbara went to join her beloved husband, Art, who passed away on November 21, 2011, in heaven. Barbara was born to Ethel Ciers-Margolies (Stang) and Joseph Ciers on June 18th in Washington Heights, New York. Arthur was born to Muriel Dawson (Bridge) and Harold Dawson in Millbrook, Ontario Canada. They were married on March 19th.
Barbara and Art lived in Indian River, Ontario, Canada on a farm when they were first married. Barbara loved to bake pies and was lucky to have fresh fruit to fill them with from the farm and baked an excellent Cherry-Rhubarb pie. Many wonderful nights were spent sitting in front of the fire in the farmhouse living room. In the winter, sledding was a must in a farm field with a great hill.
Barbara and Art belonged to the Flushing Hospital bowling league which was where Barbara worked. They were such good bowlers that they won first place and a trip to Jamaica. They loved having family around and took every opportunity to invite them over and cook the most delicious meals for them. Art, who was a very talented carpenter, built a beautiful home in Gouldsboro, PA (Pocono Mountains) which had enough room to have family and friends over all at the same time. They were great friends with their neighbors and Barbara loved to cook and bake for them and Art was always lending a hand to fix or build something for them.
Barbara had a very quick wit and could make you laugh until you cried. Many times when we were eating dinner or just spending family time, Art would come out with one of his humorous poems out of the blue and have us all laughing. One thing Barbara never forgot was her love for New York and she spoke of it often. Art had great memories of the times spent in Canada with his brothers and sister. Barbara and Art w ere the best of friends and had many wonderful years together.
They will be dearly missed by their daughter Jan and her husband Spencer, their son Joseph and his wife Niki, grandchildren Madison, Mason and Tony. Dad is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law Walter Dawson and Allan and Margaret Dawson They are also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Barbara and Art were preceded in death by Barbara's parents, and her brother Murray and Art's parents, sister, Colleen Dawson and sister-in-law Muriel Dawson.
A celebration of their lives will take place on March 18th and March 19th. Please contact Jan Lohuis for details.
Heartfelt thanks to Pricilla and Pat, good friends and neighbors, who were always there in time of need throughout their time in Vero Beach; the late Chicky Anderson who was also a friend and neighbor and always there to assist; Marie, who gave our family excellent guidance and care; Mary, a very close family friend (" sister") and caregiver who took very good care of both of them during their illnesses; Chris and Dave, who always took the time to spend time with Mom when they were at Palm Gardens; Bubs, a very kind and thoughtful friend who Mom loved to talk to about New York and whatever else came up and always made sure Mom had her Coca Cola; Stephanie, who Mom loved to visit at Olive Garden and go out with, and the staff at Palm Gardens for all their care and concern, especially Sherry and Narcy.
