Barbara Rose
Hicks
Aug 28, 1950 — Oct 28, 2019
Barbara Rose Hicks wife of Thomas Hicks living in Vero Beach, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon October 28 th , 2019 after an extended illness. Barbara was born August 28 th , 1950 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She is survived by her loving husband Tom and two of her three children, daughter Michelle Hemby of Florida, and son Gregory Jones of New Jersey and a step-son Michael Hicks of Florida. Barbara was a beloved member and Deacon of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Vero Beach. Prior to her retirement, when she was known as Barbara Rose Jones, she once served proudly as personal chef for the real estate magnate Donald Trump before he became president. The stories she shared of those years always described her boss, Mr. Trump, as a man who treated her politely, with respect and rewarded her generously for her work and efforts. She was an excellent cook and later shared her talents with numerous churches setting up hot meal and soup kitchens. Barb met Tom at one of those venues when he volunteered to help her wash a mountainous stack of soiled dishes in the sink… it was a match made in heaven. She has kept him busy and they have worked side by side ever since. They married on 11-11-2011 shortly after meeting. Her many gifts included crafting unique live and silk flower arrangements and seasonal alter and table decorations which she provided faithfully for each holiday event. She leaves behind many dear friends in New
Jersey, West Virginia and Florida. A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be planned for her at First Christian Church of Vero Beach, Florida in approximately 2 weeks to allow friends and family to make travel plans during this busy Thanksgiving and Christmas season. As soon as the time and date of the service is finalized, it will be posted here on the Cox Gifford Website. Her ashes will be interred in New Jersey along with her other son Christopher who predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations directly to First Christian Church of Vero Beach, 1927 27 th Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida, 32960 and note on the check "Memory of Barbara Hicks".
