In Loving Memory of Barbara Horning
Barbara Ruth Horning, age 86, passed away December 13, 2010 surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert Horning, daughter Jain Doremus and her husband Peter of Punta Gorda, Florida and her son Philip Horning and his wife Shannon and their two sons Ryan and Evan of Tallahassee, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert and sister Dorothy.
Barbara was born in 1924 to Col. Albert and Irene Moren of Bristol, Rhode Island. She graduated from Bristol High School and married Robert Horning of Seattle, Washington while he served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Rhode Island. Roberts later employment afforded them the opportunity to established homes in eight different states and two foreign countries. Along with her love of travel and experiencing different lifestyles and cultures, Barbara was an enthusiastic linguist and spoke a bit of several languages.
Barbara was an accomplished artist and writer. Her paintings and sculpture were annually viewed at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club Art Show. Her writing was published in several venues and she was awarded the Outstanding Writers Award from the Space Coast Writers Guild as well as the Silver Poet Award given by the World of Poetry Association of California.
Barbara will be well remembered for her passion for tennis, both as a serious fan and constant player in local leagues and tournaments. Barbara was a full time mother, wife and homemaker while helping her community with active volunteer work for the Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind and Medical Center Volunteers.she will be dearly missed!
The family will hold a private memorial service for Barbara.
