Barbara Joan Slater, 79, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away February 15, 2019, at Indian River Medical Center.

She was born August 31, 1939, in Skokie, IL and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1996 coming from Illinois.

Ms. Slater worked as a teacher in Illinois and a Guardian ad Litem in Vero Beach.

She leaves her memories to be cherished by her sons, William Slater of South Africa and Craig Slater (Amy) of Kenosha, Wisc; daughter, Janalyn (Brian Heckman) Slater of Ft. Pierce; brother, Ron (Cheryl) Stryker  of Naples, FL; sisters, Karen Boyesen of Port Orange, FL and Susie (John) Matush of Arizona; nieces, Katie (John Finck) Stryker, Dawn (Dennis) Veselka, Diana Boyesen, Dana Dimatteo, Jorie Stryker, Jennifer St. Julian, Kelly Matush and Karina Dey; nephews, Darren Boyesen, Patrick Matush and Bradley Matush and her favorite grandson, Cody Slater of South Africa and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Heckman of Ft Pierce.  She was predeceased by her brother, Doug Stryker, and niece, Prudy Stryker.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
