Obit: Betty Haire
Betty Haire, 90, passed away after a brief illness on March 26, 2011. Betty has been a resident of Vero Beach for the past 53 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Forest and Betty Hagerman, sister Joan Comisky and husband John Haire, Jr..
Betty was born in Toronto, Canada on April 1, 1920. Her family later moved to Rochester, New York and then to Fort Dodge, Iowa where her father managed the Tobin meat packing plant.
Betty graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During a visit home from college and while attending Corpus Christi Church, Betty met the love of her life. Betty and John were married in Fort Dodge in June of 1941. After living in Fort Dodge, John and Betty moved to Vero Beach but always returned to Iowa.
Betty was a home maker for many years and active in charitable organizations. She was a life partner with her husband and together they were inseparable for 65 years. Betty along with John started the George Mason Land Company and was active in its operations.
Betty will remain in our hearts forever and is survived by her son John (Shelia) and daughter Peggy Laval (Bruce), grand children Kaitlin Haire, Michael Laval (Shari), Missy Laval, step great grand children Mollie and Ian, great grand son Jacob Laval, nieces and nephews Nancy Booms (Rick), Dan Comiskey (Linda), Jim Comiskey and Patty Comiskey.
Betty will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor and as a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cared deeply about her family and friends. Betty was devoted to her John - loving husband and best friend. Not a day will go by that we do not feel her loving influence in our lives. Nana, you are very special and we shall miss you forever.
Her family thanks Bettys many friends for the love and support shown to their mother. Special thanks to the outstanding staffs at the Vero Beach Country Club, Regency Park of Vero Beach, Home Instead Senior Care (Diane, Janette, Barbara Ann and Ruby), Di and from Holy Cross Catholic Church, Tina.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
