Betty J. Mayo (95) of Vero Beach, FL, passed away July 21, 2016.
A memorial service for Betty Jo Mayo is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Indian River Estates with the Rev. Chad Elberson officiating.
Mrs. Mayo, 95, of Indian River Estates, died July 21 at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 15, 1921 in Logan County, Ohio to Riley Horn and Etta Morris Horn. She received her AA degree as a Registered Nurse at Ohio State University in 1943 and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps in the Philippines during and after WWII. There she met her husband Boyd Wayne Mayo, a U.S. Army Captain.
They married August 2, 1947. The Mayos resided throughout the Southeast during Wayne's career as an executive with Southern Bell Telephone. They retired in Miami in 1986 and moved to Indian River Estates in 2004.
Survivors include her sister, Julia Schleicher of Colorado; her son Mike Mayo (Marcia) of North Carolina; her daughter Janet Mayo Kahler (Jimmy) of Florida; and her daughter Martha Mayo Magnuson (David) of California; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
