Betty W. Shields, 87, of Vero Beach, FL died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
Mrs. Shields was born July 29, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Vero Beach 4 years ago from Sarasota, FL.
She had worked as the Assistant to the President of Carnegie Mellon University and was a past President of the Pittsburgh Garden Club, a Master Bridge Player, the Chairwoman of Fox Chapel Garden Club, a member of the Duquense Club of Pittsburgh and the 20th Century Club in Oakland, PA. Mrs. Shields also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.
Survivors include her son Charles Shields of Vero Beach; daughters Susan Shroeder of Crossville, TN and Betsy Tabac of Tallahassee, FL; step-children John Shields and William D. Shields II both of Pittsburgh, PA, Margaret Gilfillan of Sewickley, PA; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: A private service will be held in Pittsburgh at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
