Our beloved Bridget Josephine Healy went to heaven on June 3rd at age 84.

She was born May 18, 1935, to Pat and Ellen McDonnell in Glenamoy, County Mayo Ireland; the fifth of eight children. Although raised in a small farming community, deep down she had the spark of a city girl and craved adventure. At 18, she boarded the M.V. "Georgic" ship with her sister Mary, making passage to New York Harbor. They lived with their Aunt Agnes & Uncle Martin McIntyre and cousins Mary & Marty on the upper west side of Manhattan.

Bridget was hired as a receptionist at the Equitable Life Insurance Company, which was on the 17th floor of the Empire State building. She worked there for many years and was recognized for her exceptional service with an invitation to join the membership of The Equitable Veteran Legion; a proud honor.

In 1959, Bridget attended the Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture and received her certification in hairdressing & cosmetology.

She met the handsome fireman, Edwin Healy, at the popular Saturday night dance hall on 86th St; where the Irish gathered. They married July 29, 1961, and had two children Marie and Mark; raising them in Lake Mahopac, New York. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this summer.

Bridget was the family hairdresser who also worked many years in local beauty parlors; a source of great joy and fun for her. Along those lines, she also enjoyed the weekly bowling league, card games, slot machine casino action in Atlantic City, shopping trips to Manhattan, Irish dances, boating on Lake Mahopac, family road trip vacations, cruises, pool parties with the neighbors, holiday gatherings with her 3 sisters & 1 brother who all lived in New York. She made the most of life.

Upon retirement, Bridget and Ed would escape winter and go to sunny Florida where they picked up golf and made more dear friends. They eventually made Vero Beach their full-time home.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters Nellie and Mary and brother Paddy. She is survived by her husband Edwin, children Marie and Mark, 2 sisters Anne and Sarah, 2 brothers Michael and John, 3 granddaughters Heather, Kim, and Shannon, 2 great granddaughters Kaylee and Keira, 1 great grandson Elliott and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We are sad in our hearts, but we know Bridget is in heaven with all her family and friends who have been waiting for her with open arms. The "life of the party" is stirring things up again!

A special thank you to Dr. Susan Murphy in Vero Beach and Dr. Abraham Schwartzberg of The Cancer Center of South Florida; for taking such good care of Mom in her final years.

A visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 18 at Cox Gifford Seawinds funeral home from 2 to 4 PM with a prayer service at 4 PM. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, June 19 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. A "Celebration of Her Life Well Lived" will be held after mass in the Irish American Social Club. She will rest in peace at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. A graveside service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Bridget would appreciate memorial mass cards.
