Calvin Lafayette Wood, 79, died August 2, 2012 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
He was born June 13, 1933 in Blountstown, FL and raised in Jacksonville Beach, FL. He lived in Lancaster, PA since 1967. After being a part time resident of Vero Beach for 12 years he recently relocated there full time.
He graduated from Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, and later graduated from the Jacksonville Junior College.
He served in the United States Air Force, followed by the Air National Guard retiring in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel. In addition to his military service he worked as a commercial pilot for 25 years, for Pan Am and Delta Airlines.
Calvin was an avid golfer and bridge player. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Beach Volunteer Lifesaving Corp.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lancaster and attended First Covenant Church in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Maryann Wood; sons Jeffery Wood of Blue Bell, PA and Scott Wood of Carlsbad, CA; daughter Angela Boling of Vero Beach; brother Leonard Wood of Atlantic Beach, FL and 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 5 sisters.
A memorial service will be held at First Covenant Church in Vero Beach on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
