Carlo Emilio DeChellis, 88, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, January 20 th with his wife Nina by his side. He was born to the late John and Anna DeChellis on August 18 th , 1932 in Pacentro, Italy.

Carlo moved to the U.S. in 1948 at the age of 15 to pursue the American Dream. Despite the fact that he couldn't read, write or speak a word of English, he managed to navigate the challenges of being an Italian immigrant and opened his first restaurant at the age of 26. He and his wife Nina married on August 2 nd , 1958 and would celebrate their 63 rd wedding anniversary this August. They started a family of four boys, bought a home in Carteret, New Jersey, established a number of successful restaurants and ultimately moved to Vero Beach in 1974, the hometown of his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a man of great integrity, character and professionalism who was loved by many in his community.

Carlo is survived his wife Nina, his sons Anthony, Robert , Danny and ten grandchildren. Due to the pandemic, a family visitation was held on Monday, January 25 th followed by a burial service . In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
