Carol Vassar
Pouch
Nov 26, 1942 — Aug 20, 2026
Vero Beach
Carol Vassar Pouch, 83, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. She was born on November 26, 1942, to William and Dorothy Vassar in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Carol lived a life devoted to her family, her nursing career, and the many interests and adventures she shared with her beloved husband, Richard C. Pouch.
Carol graduated from Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, Vermont, where she met Richard, her husband of 62 years. She later earned her Bachelor’s degree from Empire State College in New York.
As a military wife, Carol and Richard relocated throughout the U.S. and Europe where Carol worked in a number of healthcare facilities and positions along the way. Eventually, they settled in Westfield, New Jersey, where they raised their two daughters, Kimberly and Kristina.
Carol will be remembered for her warmth, dedication, and love of family. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, golfing, and traveling with Richard. She had a deep and abiding love for her dogs, who were cherished members of her family. Above all, Carol was especially proud of her four grandsons and treasured the time she spent with them.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband, Richard C. Pouch; her daughters, Kimberly MacDonald of Fort Myers, Florida, and Kristina Baranowski of Brooklet, Georgia; also survived by brother David Vassar and sister Lynne Roe.
A graveside service will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
Carol leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the love of a family who will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those wishing to honor Carol’s memory consider making a donation to the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County. Carol’s love for dogs was a special part of who she was, and we know she would be touched to see that love continue by helping animals in need. Donations may be made in memory of Carol Pouch.
