Carol Gretchen (Schmidt) Ricketson, age 78, of Vero Beach FL and South Dennis MA died on February 2, 2009 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL after a short illness. Carol was born August, 6, 1930 in Taunton, MA, daughter of Charles T Schmidt and Winifred B (Pollard) Schmidt.
Carol was married on December 27, 1950 in Taunton, MA to Robert B. Ricketson.
Carol graduated from Taunton High School in 1948 and attended Bridgewater State College leaving school to get married and raise her family of four boys. She later returned to Bridgewater State obtaining her BS in education and graduated with honors.
Carol worked for the Taunton Public Schools for 23 years as a teacher of the gifted and talented children program and as a coach for the Odyssey of the Mind. After retiring, she volunteered as a tutor for the Vero Beach Schools and also volunteered at the Indian River Medical Center. Throughout her retirement, Carol enjoyed going to the beach, watching the Red Sox, traveling with husband, Robert, and spending time with her four sons, daughters-in-law and nine grandchildren.
She was member of St Johns Episcopal Church in Taunton, MA, a former Worthy Advisor for Rainbow Girls, a member of the Red Hatters, and the Heritage Plantation bocce team.
Carol is survived by her husband, Robert of Vero Beach, FL and South Dennis, MA; her sons and daughters-in law, Robert and Cindy Ricketson of Trenton, OH, Keith and Amy Ricketson of Plymouth, MA, Jon and Elizabeth Ricketson of Holliston, MA, and Mark and Amy Ricketson of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Kendra, Emily, Daniel, Jarod, Kyle, Ariana, Anya,; and her brother, Dr. Charles T Schmidt, Jr. of Saunderstown, RI.
Services: Interment will be private at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis, MA. A memorial service for family and friends will be scheduled at St Johns church in Taunton, MA at a later date.
