Obituary

Caroline Voorhees (nee Kennedy) of Vero Beach, Florida and Block Island, Rhode Island, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 18, 2021, at the age of 80.

Caroline was born on August 5, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Eileen Kennedy (nee Farmer) and James Kennedy. She graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1963 and, thereafter, earned a master's degree in education. Caroline had a career as a special education teacher and inclusion facilitator in Greenwich, Connecticut. She married her college sweetheart and lifelong love, David, on August 17, 1963, and all told, they enjoyed more than 61 years together. Caroline and David raised their children in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Caroline was the matriarch of a large clan which she loved fiercely above all else. She loved the ocean and her home on Block Island, where she tended her glorious garden. She also enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and family and had many hobbies including SCUBA diving, tennis, cards, puzzles, and a good read. Caroline was quick witted, clever and did not suffer fools. She spoke her mind, was bold and tough, and we thank her most for setting an example of strength. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and all those who knew her.

Caroline is survived by her husband David Voorhees; her children, Dana Montanez, Tristin Rumack, and Josh Voorhees; and her nine grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents and brother Richard Kennedy.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held on Block Island, Summer 2022. Details to follow.
