Dr. Charles D. Hall, DDS, a resident of Vero Beach since 1979, passed away at the age of 86 at home on February 13, 2016 with his family by his side.
Born January 19, 1930 in Evansville, Indiana, he attended Bossie High School, was a member of the school football team, lifeguarded for the city and attended Evansville College.
Charley went on to attend Indiana University, where he graduated as Doctor of Dental Surgery. While attending IU, he won the Indiana State Diving Championship and in 1955 married Doris Christensen, his wife of 60 years. He then served in the USAF as a Captain at Bentwaters AFB, England before returning to Indianapolis and graduating with a Masters in Periodontics from IU.
Following his graduation in 1959, he established his dental practice in Coral Gables, Florida. In 1979, he established a practice in Vero Beach and continued to serve patients in Miami and Okeechobee until his retirement in 1996.
Charley volunteered at Homestead AFB in South Florida, served as President of the Florida Association of Periodontics 1974-1975, and served on numerous doctor-to-doctor mission trips to South America. He was owner/handler of championship Samoyeds in both England and the US, and enjoyed sailing.
Charley loved working and then relaxing with a gin and tonic and cigar in hand on the front porch of the family farm, Fishhawk Cove, in Western North Carolina. He was a member of Vero Beach Country Club, where he enjoyed his weekly rounds of golf and was well known among friends and family for his sense of humor and infectious smile.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, son Bruce Hall (Carrie), daughter Krista Simpson (Richard), and four grandchildren.
