Charles Chuck Edward Henkel, Sr., 93, of Vero Beach, FL died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach after a brief illness.
Mr. Henkel was born March 5, 1916 in Cleveland, OH and moved to Vero Beach in 1978 from Winchester, KY.
Prior to retirement he worked as an Electrical Engineer for 40 years, retiring from GTE in Winchester, KY.
He holds a Bachelors Degree in 1937 from Case Western University in Cleveland, OH, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi social fraternity; Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi honorary societies. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years Betty Jane of Vero Beach; son Charles Edward Henkel, Jr. of Middletown, OH; daughters Hollace Ellen Quarles of Williamsburg, VA and Martha Anne Drach of Cincinnati, OH; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: The family will receive friends 6-8 PM, Friday, August 21, 2009 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
