Charles Dana Peterson, 69, of Vero Beach, passed away on November 14, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.
He was born in Syracuse, NY, attended Altmar-Parish-Williamstown in Altmar, NY, and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served our country from 1975–1978, attaining the rank of First Sergeant. He continued his dedication to service as a member of the National Guard for more than ten years.
Charles will be remembered as a loving and caring husband whose gentle nature and steady presence brought comfort to everyone who knew him. A proud gun enthusiast, he appreciated the craftsmanship and responsibility that came with the hobby, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was also an animal lover and had a sense of humor like no one else, bringing laughter to those around him.
Charles retired from Pursuit Boats after 22 years of dedicated service. He took great pride in his work and the people he worked alongside, carrying those friendships and experiences with him throughout his life.
Known for his kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength, Charles leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty years, Colleen Peterson; his children Jefferey (Lisa) Peterson, Shelley (Austin-Darrell) LaMacchia, and Michael (Jesse) Peterson; his stepchildren Zachariah Martin and Alix Norris; and his grandchildren Hannah, Emanuel, Brooklyn, Nathan, Mason, Nova and Luna. He is also survived by his sister Jacqueline Gallagher and his brother James (Avis) Peterson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, John Peterson and Jessie Forsyth Peterson, as well as his siblings Jeanne Reese and Janice Tucci.
Service details may be announced at a later time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home.
