Dorothy Christina Bowman Purinton, a resident of Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, FL, passed away February 3, 2020.
Born in West Hartlepool, UK in 1922, Christina was the third daughter of Richard and Lillie Watt Bowman. She attended private schools until the outbreak of World War II in 1939. In 1941 she voluntarily joined the Woman's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) and served until 1946 as a meteorological assistant at airfields in SE England.
In 1947 she immigrated to the United States and lived in Philadelphia, PA. Christina relocated to New Jersey where she was employed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center Neurological Institute. Later she moved to Washington D.C., where she met and married John B. Purinton Jr. while employed as a Doctor's Assistant.
In retirement Christina and John lived first in Greenville, NC before coming to Vero Beach in 1983. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, as well as the Vero Beach hospital where she previously served as President of the IRMC Auxiliary.
She is survived by her cousins, Marian, Lawrence, Ruth Christina, Charlotte and their beloved step grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce Purinton, her children and grandchildren; step daughter, Daris Purinton; and many other loving family and friends.
There are no formal services scheduled at this time. Donations on Mrs. Purinton's belalf may be made to the American Red Cross, Vero Beach Humane Society or American Friends Service Committees.
