Clifton Benjamin Brown, 99, of Vero Beach, Fl, formerly of Riverside, RI, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2016. He was born in Pawtucket, RI on February 16, 1917, the son of Benjamin and Grayce (Giddings) Brown. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 73 years, Thelma (Smith) Brown.

He is survived by his three sons: Gilbert, and wife Lee of North Kingstown, RI; Stephan, and wife Sally of Harwichport, MA; Jeffrey, and wife Linda of Barrington, RI; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Brown University with an engineering degree. He worked as a mechanical engineer at America Screw Co; machinist and inspector at Builders Foundry; inspector at American Bosch; detail draftsman, thermodynamic prognosticator at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He then took over the Ben Brown Co in East Providence, RI from his father, and later joined Amica Mutual Insurance Co as a supervisor before retiring in 1980.

He resided in Riverside, RI for many years while raising his family. He was a member of Riverside Congregational Church, Masonic Lodge and DeMolay.

Upon retiring, he lived in Fairlane Harbor in Vero Beach, Fl before moving to Indian River Estates in Vero Beach. He was an active member of the Fairlane Harbor and Indian River Estates communities and The Community Church of Vero Beach.

During his life he enjoyed tennis, shuffleboard, pool, bike riding, boating, fishing, traveling, and especially summers on Block Island and Cape Cod. He was a master at bridge and crossword puzzles. He will be remembered for his quick wit and humor.
