Colonel Herndon F. Williams, United States Air Force (Retired), 87, died April 22, 2009 at Palm Garden of Vero Beach.
He was born December 10, 1921 in Florence, SC. Following his retirement in 1972 he lived in Brevard, NC before moving to Vero Beach in 1980.
He attended Clemson College before entering the military in January 1942. Following the war he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The National War College in Washington, DC, and held a Masters Degree in International Relations from George Washington University.
During his 30 year career in the United States Air Force he served in a variety of command and staff positions throughout the world. As a fighter pilot in Europe during World War II (1943-44), in Korea (1952), and in Vietnam (1967-68) he flew 330 combat missions.
He was past president of the REALTORS Association of Indian River County and the Indian River Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. He also served on the Indian River County Economic Development and the Land Acquisition Advisory committees.
He is survived by his wife Sara D. Williams of Vero Beach.
