Coretha Mixon Nees, 101, went peacefully to be with the Lord March 15th, 2021.
She was the third child born to Eugenia P. Mixon and Willie Lee Mixon, January 25th, 1920. Born in Perry, FL the family moved to Vero Beach in 1928 where she grew up and graduated from Vero Beach High School. Her brothers and sisters, William (Bill) Mixon, Bessie Melton, John Mixon, David Mixon, Beatrice Dean and Henry Mixon all preceded her in death.
She is survived by 5 nieces, Pam Bartolucci, Brenda McDonald, Debbie Matula, Patti Mixon, Terry Melton and 11 nephews, Richard (Rick) Dean, Dale Dean, Keith Dean, Mark Dean, Bobby Melton,Harry Melton, Jim Melton, David (Buddy) Mixon, Danny Mixon, Mickey Mixon and Vance Mixon.
In 1966 she married the love of her life Carl B. Nees. They loved to travel together, always including their beloved dog on trips. Her husband of 30 years, Carl preceded her in death on December 24th 1996.
In 1957 she went to work for First Bankers of Indian River County. She retired from her position as Trust Operations Manager in 1982 after 25 years of service in banking. She was respected and loved both professionally and personally by all who met her.
Coretha loved God. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 85 years. She served as a teller for the church until her loss of vision prevented her from continuing in her duties. She was a Godly woman filled with tremendous faith and courage and blessed with a very happy life.
Visitation will be held 5pm - 7pm, Thursday, March 25th at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL coxgiffordseawinds.com
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held on Friday March 26th at 11 am at First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, fbcvero.org .
Immediately following the service at the church, the interment will be held at Crestlawn Cemetery.
Due to Covid 19 masks are required while inside at both Cox-Gifford Funeral Home and First Baptist Church. If you do not have a mask one will be provided for you.
