Daniel A. Sanftleben, Jr. died Sunday, December 17 ^th after a short stay at Hospice House in Vero Beach.  He was the son of Daniel A. Sanftleben, Sr. who left his birthplace of Jamaica, West Indies to attend Clemson Agricultural College at age 16.  Dan's mother was Irene Martin of Martin County, NY.

Dan was born in Brooklyn, NY at Peck Memorial Hospital, then later moved to Teaneck, NJ. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, graduating in 1954. He was in the Army for two years, stationed in Japan. "Devon Dan" worked for Airco Industrial Gases for 36 years until his retirement in 1992.

Dan is survived by two daughters from his first marriage, Linda Fallow, grandsons, Nicolas and Jacob Fallow, and great-grandson Jacob; and Leslie Jane Foster, granddaughter, Danielle Foster.  Dan remarried in 1969 to Elsie Axford Sanftleben and had daughter Amanda Sanftleben Rambo, two granddaughters, Ashley and Allison Rambo and grandson, Ryan Daniel Rambo.  Dan also had two step-sons and one step-daughter, Josh, David and Liza Niles, along with 8 step-grandchildren.

The Sanftlebens raised their children in Devon, PA.  Dan enjoyed playing tennis and spending summers down the shore at Long Beach Island, NJ.  He was a member of and played tennis regularly at the Foundation for the Arts in Loveladies, NJ. Some games, especially with Arnold "The Viking" were rather unorthodox, with opera arias being sung on the court and numerous quips exchanged.  ("It's out! Foot fault! C'mon Danny!")

Dan was one-of-a-kind, a sweet and wonderful guy. He was always reliable and punctual, a man of routine and reliability. Dan and Elsie retired to Vero Beach, FL in 1995 where he continued playing tennis and loved reading and being on the beach.  Eventually he moved poolside, closer to home, shooting the breeze with his buddies. "Vero Tan Dan" was always happy being in the sun.  He was a courier for over 20 years following his "retirement", enjoying his many acquaintances made throughout the years.  He also loved to plan trips abroad for himself and Elsie.  He was intrigued with the layouts of planes and spent hours and hours researching.  He will be greatly missed and always cherished.
