Major David R. Dickerson(U.S. Army retired), 64, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died suddenly on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC.
David was born on June 30, 1945 in Washington D.C. He grew up in Baltimore , MD , where he was a two time high school all-american football player. David enlisted in the army, was number one in his ranger school, and won the Silver Star along with many other honors in Vietnam , became an officer, and retired as a major. He was an avid golfer and was a member of The Majors Golf Course and South Brevard Golf Association.
David was predeceased by two grandchildren, Madalyn Burns and Baby Mayes.
Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 42 years Patti and three daughters: Dana Mayes(Jim), Gina Burns(Robert), and Alisa Dickerson USMC. Four grandchildren: Jenna Claire and Timothy David Mayes, and Sadie Sunshine and Sabrina Skye Burns. Two brothers Jimmy and Bobby Dickerson and two sisters Kathy Bauer and Linda Stolba.
Calling hours are Monday, October 26, from 4pm to 6pm at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Avenue , Melbourne , FL 32935 .
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 27, at 10 am at the Davis Seawinds Funeral Home with burial with military honors at South National Cemetery in Lake Worth , FL at 2pm.
