David Lee Knittel, 81, of Sebastian, Florida, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
He was born February 25, 1929, in Portsmouth to the late David G. and Mary Virginia (Dinwiddie) Knittel. David retired in 1994 after 40 years at the A-Plant with Goodyear Atomic and the Martin-Marietta Corporation. He had also worked at Crichton Office Supply in his youth. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Sebastian Christian Church. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and had attended Cincinnati Bible College before joining the Army and serving in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. David had traveled extensively and had lived in Florida the past twelve years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Virginia (Ginny) Williams of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was also preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Sara Anne Eynon Knittel, in 2005.
He is survived by his three daughters Leanne (Steve) Allen of Lucasville, Kim (Vernon) Swiggett of Bedford, Texas, and Julie Knittel of Loveland, Ohio; five grandchildren Emily (Mark) Watkins, Ben Allen, Heather Chapman, Holly Chapman, and Tyler Knittel-McDavid, and one great grandchild. Also by his longtime companion, Evelyn W. Joy.
Memorial Services will be held at Sebastian Christian Church in the near future.
