David L. Powers, 68, of Vero Beach, FL died peacefully at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, surrounded by family and loved ones following a brief illness.
David was born in Portland, ME, March 4, 1946. He was the son of John Powers, Jr. and Dorothy Bragdon Powers. He graduated from Monmouth Academy, Monmouth, ME and Becker College in Worcester, MA.
David lived in Standish, ME for many years, employed as a carpenter and later at Federal Express.
Prior to retirement, David had two profitable vocations creating reproduction furniture and refurbishing street rods. He attended numerous car shows and enjoyed participating in the "rod runs". His innate talent and insistence on perfection produced professional quality results and also earned him a perfect, "Mr. Fix It". David's greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Kristen. They shared a very special bond.
After retirement, David moved to Florida, where he enjoyed gold and tennis. He later became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he found much Christian love and volunteered his time.
David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy, a daughter, Kristen Powers of NC and a sister, Mary Jane Buck and her husband Terry, of Turner, ME and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express thans and much gratitude to VNA Hospice for their invaluable and sensitive assistance. You are truly Angles on earth.
A special thank you, to Dr. K, for his continued support during David's illness. David always thought of him as a great friend and mentor.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2555 58th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
