David Sigmon Williams passed away on April 25, 2026 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born in Statesville, North Carolina on November 6, 1951. He was a 1970 graduate of Statesville High School and received his undergraduate degree in 1974 and Law degree in 1977 from Wake Forest University. He spent over three decades as an attorney with the federal judiciary in Washington, D.C. He retired to Vero Beach, Florida in 2013 with his longtime partner, Charlie O’Rourke.
David had a longstanding passion for the arts, particularly film, television, and music, and built an extensive personal collection spanning decades and genres. He enjoyed playing bridge, singing in the choir, traveling, and maintaining close friendships. His love of music carried into family traditions the grandkids enjoyed throughout their lives, especially on Christmas Eve, when he would sit at the piano and the family would gather around with well-worn caroling books. He would do his best to keep everyone together as the rest of the family sang loudly and slightly off-key.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Sherrod Williams, Jr and Andris Maye Sigmon. His brother, John Clayton Williams; and his longtime partner, Charlie O’Rourke. He is survived by his sister, Carol Andris Williams Dillard; his nephews, Clayton Mark Dillard and Bradley William Dillard (Wei Ying) and the extended family he embraced through his life with Charlie. He is remembered by Colleen Schaefer (Michael), Kathleen Cundy (Fred), Christine Conrow, Adam O’Rourke (Evelyn), and David O’Rourke. He also leaves behind grandchildren Kayla Mason (Blaine), Austin Conrow (Renae), Amber Conrow, Madison Cundy, Wil Cundy, Cameron Pack, Gavin Conrow, Trent O’Rourke, and Kinley O’Rourke; and one great-grandchild, Wren Conrow. He was looking forward to the arrival of his next great-granddaughter, Palmer Mason, expected in the coming weeks.
