Obituary: David Henry Wood, Sr.
David Henry Wood, Sr., was born August 26, 1912 in East Falls, Philadelphia, PA. He passed on to his Loving Savior, August 1, 2011. He was married on April 18, 1938 to Marianna Wrenn, who died April 19, 1983. He is survived by Mrs. Jean Whitford Wood, his four children, David H. Wood, Jr., Catherine V. Driscoll, John R. Wood and Marianna Wood, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He earned his chemical engineering diploma at night from Drexel Institute of Technology. During WW II he worked in critical industries associated with the manufacturing of ammunition, and later became Vice President of Henry Bower Chemical Co. of Philadelphia, PA. He and Marianna were brought to Florida in 1970 through his employment with the Bryn Mawr Group, a land development and restaurant corporation. He assumed its presidency. He retired in 1977 to Vero Beach. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Coming to the running community late in life, he demonstrated a love for his nightly run. Later in years, he could be spotted on the Riverside Fitness Trail. He was a regular on the courts and an eager sub for the ladies doubles. The family wishes to thank Indian River Cardiology, the crew at A1A CVS and also the folks on the Riverside Fitness Trail, from whom he received great encouragement and joy. Memorial contributions may be made to one of his favorite charities, the North Treasure Coast Chapter of American Red Cross Vero Beach Office, 2506 17th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Services: Mass will be celebrated 10 AM, Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach, FL. Condolences may be sent through www.coxgiffordseawinds.com.
