Deborah Brayton Young

Deborah "Debby" Brayton Young, of Vero Beach, passed away on November 1, 2024. She was 77. Debby was born in East Orange, New Jersey to parents Rosemary and William Brayton. She was seven years old when she moved to Vero Beach Florida, where she remained throughout her life.

Debby graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1965. She then went to  Stetson and Florida Atlantic University. After graduating she began her 35 year teaching career at Vero Beach Junior High School and later Vero Beach High School. She was an English teacher and helped many students, including most of the Vero Beach High School football team. Debby cherished her time teaching and shared many of those moments with her best friend, Norva Greene.

Debby met her husband George (Buddy) Toohey Young Il in high school. They were married in Jacksonville, FL, three months before Buddy got out of the Navy. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage together. Debby loved to travel. Special memories were made with her family every Summer in Marathon, FL fishing and lobstering. Buddy and she also went to Alaska four times, the Grand Canyon, shelling in Sanibel Island, cruising, and many other places. Debby loved "Bird" dogs and she and Buddy had many over the years. Debby volunteered for Meals on Wheels and AARP, doing taxes, for free, at the library and The Indian River County Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

Debby was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins, her sister Barbara Walker, brother Tyler Brayton and daughter Elizabeth Langlois Ferguson.

Debby is survived by her husband George Toohey Young Il, sons GeorgeToohey Young Ill (Erica) and Adam Young. Grandchildren Allison Baird (Caleb), Zachary Young, and Greg Young. Great grandchild Ezekiel Baird and brother Arthur Brayton.

A memorial service will be held 3pm on Friday, November 8,2024 at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
