Delores Skalaski, 85, died September 1, 2014 after a prolonged illness.

Delores was born in Richton Park, Illinois on June 30, 1929. Her mother was Martha Maude Brady. Delores, her sister Hazel, and two brothers, Bud and Calvin, were all adopted by their legal father, Theodore Matthies. They were raised in Illinois until Delores moved to Miami in her late teens. There, she married, and is survived by her five children: Linda, Charles III (Ann), Donna (Steve), William (Barbara), and Laurie (Tom). Her wonderful grandchildren are Wade, Sarah, Charles IV, Jacob, Samantha, Katherine, Stephen, Mary Jean, Wesley, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Coreen.

In 1977, she moved to Vero Beach and has resided here ever since, living the past 12 years at Orange Blossom Village where she enjoyed many friends.

During her life, she graduated from Dade County Police Academy and owned a private investigation company. After moving to Vero, she managed a security company for many years and was as armed security guard for several businesses in the area.

Delores loved singing and dancing. She sung at country clubs in her 20s and watched Dancing With the Stars in her 80s. She spent many hours fishing in the river to clear her mind and occasionally even caught a fish.

Raising 5 children kept her busy and she always made holidays special with her "home-made" pies from Publix...well she did take them out of the oven. We all enjoyed her sense of humor.

She played cards, boggle, and did crossword puzzles. She became pretty good at Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Delores was a special lady with a deep and constant faith who trusted The Lord throughout her life. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was an example to all of how a Christian should live every day. We know she is rejoicing with God now......but we miss her.

The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date.
