Obituary

Dolores Sovey

January 2, 1921 – September 2, 2025

Dolores Marie Sovey was born on January 2, 1921, in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from the College of Mount Saint Joseph and spent several years teaching before beginning her greatest adventure—marriage.

In 1950, she married Ernest Sovey, an air traffic controller, in Anchorage, Alaska. Later, while living in the Panama Canal Zone, Ernie and Dolores built lasting friendships and shared many happy days on the golf course. After Ernie's medical retirement (1972), they made their home in Vero Beach, Florida.

Dolores and Ernie raised two daughters, Adrienne (Sovey) Marohl, and Mary Monica (Larry) Cassada, and later welcomed the joy of grandchildren—Lisa (Marohl) Holtzworth, Jeannie (Marohl) Skelly, and Karl Marohl III—and six great-grandchildren: Brandon, Bill, Kailur, Kerstin, Noah and Claire.

After Ernie's passing (1984), Dolores lived at Vista Royale, where she poured her energy and love into volunteer work. She gave 25 years of service to the VNA, helped at Wabasso School for Physically Impaired Children, painted homes with Habitat for Humanity, and joined Ladybug Craft, where she lovingly made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that were auctioned by the church each year.

In her later years (age 97), after a fall and three years in assisted living, Dolores returned home to her condo (age 100). She spent her final years happily playing Scrabble and Rummikub or going out to eat with dear friends Joanne and Jean.

She passed peacefully at home, just as she wished, surrounded by her loved ones.

She is survived by numerous devoted nieces and nephews who continually expressed their deep affection for her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and quiet strength that will be cherished by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice Foundation, 920 37th Place, Suite 101, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Services are being planned to take place on what would have been her 105th birthday, January 2, 2026; please visit www.coxgiffordseawinds.com closer to that date for confirmed details.
