On the eve of Memorial Day Observances, Dominick A. Martorana, 96, of Indian River Shores, a Veteran of World War II passed away peacefully, Friday, May 23, 2014 at the VNA Hospice of Indian River County.

Dominick was born in New York, NY to Domenico and Jenny Martorana. He had been a resident of Indian River Shores for the past thirty-four years coming from Highland, NY.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, enlisting in the Army Transportation Corps soon after Pearl Harbor. Dominick was a member for 61 continuous years and Past Commander of the American Legion, Lloyd Post 193. He was also a member of the Italian-American Veterans, Post 3 Vero Beach for 21 continuous years.

Seeing a local niche to be filled, Dominick started Highland Mfg Inc. a tool & die shop that he later expanded to include electro-mechanical assembly. He always tried to hire people from the local community and was always respectful of the effort by his employees. He was exuberant about his Sicilian heritage but extremely proud to be an American.

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, RoseMary Martorana of Indian River Shores; daughter, Joanna Evans of Ft Lauderdale, FL; son, Dominick (Monica) of Highland, NY; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 2 siblings, Joseph Martorana of Indian River Shores and Dorothy Magistro of Clintondale, NY and many nieces, nephews, extended family and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Celia Timperio and sisters, Katherine Reina & Grace Sanicola.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 2nd, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Lane, Vero Beach, FL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
