Donald Herbert Barnes, 86, of Spanish Lakes Country Club, Ft. Pierce, FL died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Mr. Barnes was born June 25, 1923 in Canada and was a seasonal resident of the Treasure Coast eight years ago coming from Watertown, NY.
Prior to his retirement he had been a wholesale food salesman before going to work at Fort Drum Army Base in New York as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army and a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Barnes was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and the UCT in Watertown, NY.
Survivors include his wife Avis Erwin of Fort Pierce, FL; three step-sons Robert Pitcher, David Bartlett and Joel Bartlett all from Watertown, NY; brother Ronald Barnes of Watertown, NY; sister Vada Davis of Watertown, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Della Barnes, son Larry Barnes and step-son Roger Pitcher.
Services: Services will be at a later date in Watertown.
