Donald George Weitz, 94 of Port St Lucie, FL, died November 19, 2010 at Brighton Gardens.
He was born September 12, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Jamaica High School in Jamaica, NY. Donald resided in both Jamaica, NY and Ozone Park, NY before moving east to Wading River in Long Island, NY.
He served in the US Army in France during WWII, freeing the town of Bitches, France and becoming known as one of the Sons of Bitches. He was a New York City fireman, ladder 155 of Queens, NY for 20 years, retiring and relocating to Jensen Beach in 1978. He also worked for the United States Health, Education and Welfare Department for 16 years.
After retiring, he volunteered as the Jensen Beach House of Refuge and became very active in The Jensen Beach Friends of the Library and held the office of President of the same. He worked for the Martin County Election Board, was active in the Presbyterian Church in both Port Jefferson, NY and Jensen Beach, FL.
Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Filanski of Henrico, VA; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
