Don lived with a zeal for life until his passing on January 29, 2018.  After being born in St. Louis and growing up in Indianapolis, he was a proud Hoosier and graduate of Indiana University where he was a brother of Kappa Delta Rho.  He later received his Master's in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.  His career as a hospital administrator led him to many moves around the country.  He and his wife moved to Vero Beach to start Home Instead Senior Care.  He also served as Executive Director of the Indian River Hospital District and as CEO of Treasure Coast Community Health.  Additionally, he was an adjunct professor with Johns Hopkins University and Oklahoma City University.  His career could best be summarized as a love for serving others through the health industry.

Don was the youngest of 4 boys.  He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Joseph and Mary Agnes Loftus as well as his brother Dick.  He leaves behind his beloved wife, Chris.  He is the proud father of 5 children- Kelly Loftus of Ft. Worth, TX; Kyle Loftus of Lawton, OK; Meredith Burkitt (Todd) of Charlotte, NC; David Rivers (Kate) of Honolulu, HI; and Matthew Rivers (Laura) of Dothan, AL.  The joy of his life are his 8 grandchildren—Samuel, Lucas, Jane, Mary Stewart, William, Byrdie, Ivey Mae, and McKean.  Other survivors include his brothers, Tom (Margaret) and John and their families along with his brothers-in-law David and Jim Jensen and sister-in-law Cathy Dusseau.

Don had many passions including all things sweet, golf, gardening, home improvement projects, cycling, travel, and any celebration, especially holidays. He loved to dance and Chris affectionately referred to him as "Twinkle Toes."  His beautiful tenor voice was often heard as he enjoyed singing in church, at home and in the car.  He competed in the Little 500 at IU during his college years. He lived his life through the ethos of his Christian faith by loving God and loving others.  He believed in serving others by volunteering throughout his life with many non-profits.

After our celebration of Don's life at First Presbyterian Church, the family invites you to join them for a reception at Vero Beach Country Club.  We will toast him with Champagne and indulge his favorite food group—deserts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Alzheimer's & Parkinson's Association of IRC; VNA and Hospice Foundation of Vero Beach; or Treasure Coast Community Health.
