DONALD J. O'BOYLE
"Obie", as called by his dear friends, departed this life for eternal rest at the age of 82 on February 27, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center.
Don was born in Allentown, PA and served in the U.S.Navy with an honorable discharge in 1955. He was a dedicated employee of Mack Trucks for 37 years. He also served as an elected representative of the United Auto Workers for many of those years.
Don was active in youth sports while his children were growing up and in 1973 was awarded the Jim Honochick Award-named after the Senior American League Umpire by the congregation of St. Thomas Moore Parish for his contribution to the youth of the parish.
In 1975, he married Patricia his best friend and partner for life. After retirement from Mack Truck, he designed and sold in-ground pools. Don and Pat relocated to Delaware where they designed and built their home. They resided in Delaware for 15 years before moving on to sunny southern Florida to enjoy the rest of their life. Don volunteered his services at Grove Isle Condominium FEW Club (Fishing Environmental Wildlife) and the Home Association of Waterford Lakes to pursue preserving the environment and protecting the interests of the homeowners.
Survivors include his wife Patricia O'Boyle of Vero Beach, FL, his sons, Michael O'Boyle of Nashville, TN, and Timothy O'Boyle of Emmaus, PA, his daughter, Kelly Van Auken of Montrose, PA, his stepdaughter, Susan Posh of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, stepdaughter, Diane Maltba of Gastonia, NC and 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Don is also survived by his sister, Mary Ryan of Cortlandt Manor, NY and his brother, Jay O'Boyle, of Bethany Beach, DE.
Services will be held at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home located at 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL, on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00AM. Calling hours will begin at 10:00AM. Don will be laid to rest at a later date in the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association in memory of Donald J. O'Boyle.
