Donald Stephen VanEmburgh, 92, passed away at his home in Vero Beach, FL, on February 28, 2023. Don was born in Wallingford, CT, on October 28, 1930, the son of Mae Alice (Deignan) and S. (Stephen) Lloyd Van Emburgh.
After graduating from Lyman Hall in 1948, he met the love of his life, Ilene (May) Van Emburgh, at a Polish dance and were married in 1955. He was a resident of Meriden for almost 70 years, employed at John Hancock Life Insurance and American Cyanamid, and a parishioner of St. Joseph Church .
Don had a beautiful tenor voice, singing with the Lyman Hall and St. Joseph choirs. Some of his hobbies included; watching UConn basketball, playing softball, painting, traveling, tag sales and gardening. He loved a good meal and scotch and had a great sense of humor. Besides his wife of almost 68 years, Don will be lovingly remembered by his four children and their spouses: Karen Parlato of Vero Beach, FL; Donald Van Emburgh, Jr., (Susan Tempe) of Stephentown, NY; Linda Bafumi (Victor) of Meriden; and Gale Rita (Barry), also of Meriden; his ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Lloyd Van Emburgh, James Van Emburgh (infant), and his sister, Dorothy Perkins.
A memorial service will be held in Vero Beach, FL. Burial will be private at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We will always remember your unwavering love of your family and friends.
