Obituary

Doris Brown DeAngelis, 89, passed away August 21, 2018 in her home in North Hutchinson Island, FL after a long illness.  She was born in Charlotte, NC, on December 19, 1928, to John Moffitt Brown and Bessie Etta Lawing Brown.  Doris was married to Louis DeAngelis on Jan. 27, 1951.

Doris earned her BS in Psychology from George Washington University and a Master's degree in  Child growth and development from the University of Maryland. Doris retired as a Parent Educator working with Title 1 children and parents from Prince Georges County Public School System in Maryland after years of service.  She developed a program for parent group leaders. She was a member of Lanham Methodist Church in Lanham, Maryland for 20 years.  She was also a member of Community Church in Vero Beach, Florida for 25 years, where she volunteered with the food distribution program for low income people and the volunteer tutoring program for school aged children.  She also volunteered by reading the newspaper to the blind.  She was a member of the New Carrollton Garden Club.

Her family cherishes the memories of her love, her smile, and her passion for flowers.  Surviving Doris are her husband, Louis B. DeAngelis; daughters, Linda (Robert) D. Powell of Parrish, FL, Dorie (Gary) L. Sturgill of High Point, NC, and Donna (Barry) D. Meninger of Monkton, MD; 6 grandchildren, Rachelle (David) P. McGregor, Megan (Craig) K. Shannon, Benjamin (Summer) L. Sturgill, Johnathan (Miranda) A. Sturgill, David (Katie) J. Meninger, Stephen L.. Meninger; 6 great-grandchildren, David, Andrew, Haley, Addison, Jacob, and Jane.

A Special Thanks to Sharon Thomas and her wonderful staff for the care and love they showed Doris over the final years of her life.

A memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Vero Beach 1901 23 rd St. Vero Beach on September 10, 2018 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.

Flowers can be sent to Cox-Gifford  Seawinds Funeral Home at 1950 20 th Street Vero Beach, FL 32960.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the mission program at the Community Church of Vero Beach.
