Doris E. Hughes, 84, of Vero Beach, FL died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Port St. Lucie Nursing & Restorative Care Center in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Mrs. Hughes was born December 15, 1925 in Bonham, TX and moved to Vero Beach in 1944 from Farmersville, TX.
She was a licensed beautician and had locally owned The Powder Puff, Jamies and the Patio Beauty Salons. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vero Beach.
Survivors include her daughter Deanna Kay Hughes of Palatka, FL; son Stephen Carter Hughes of Vero Beach; sisters Gladys Moore of Wilson, TX and Naomi Burkhalter of Ft. Worth, TX; a brother Gary Smalley of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren Renee (Scott) Celey of Lisbon, CT and James (Jackie) Hughes of Jacksonville, FL; and great-grandchildren Christian and Cameron Celey of Lisbon, CT.
She was predeceased by her husband James Hughes, a son James Marvin Hughes, and seven brothers and sisters.
Services: The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. The funeral service will take place 1 PM, Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Derek West of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Ft. Pierce, FL.
