Doris D. Scheiderbauer died at age 95 on 10/7/11 in Vero Beach, FL, of congestive heart failure. She was born in St. Paul, MN, where she attended St. Catherine's high school and college. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert, in a January blizzard, after which they set up home in Buffalo, NY. They also lived in Waynesboro, VA; Chattanooga, TN; Wilmington, DE; and Vero Beach, FL.

Doris was a killer bridge player and a highly competitive golfer. She achieved her first hole-in-one at age 80 at Vero Beach Country Club. She created prize-winning flower arrangements, and could make any plant grow. She particularly enjoyed raising orchids.

Doris was a breast cancer survivor, and inspired many by her swift recovery, marked by winning a golf tournament at Wilmington Country Club weeks after her surgery.
In the final year of her life, Doris was a friend and sweet presence in the Indian River Estates Medical Unit, lifting spirits by her cheerful greetings in the hallways and her late-night room visits. She maintained her feisty spirit to the end.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Said and Nancy Mahoney, their two husbands, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Laura, and her husband of 65 years, Robert.

A memorial service will be held on at 3PM on November 5 at First & Central Church in Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nurses' Christmas Fund at Indian River Estates: c/o Sue Stiles, 2200 Indian Creek Blvd West, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
